As we move further into the year, I’m proud to say I’ve stuck with the habits I set for myself back in January. Three months in, these daily routines—movement, reading, learning, productivity, and wellness—have become an essential part of my life.
Movement Challenge
This year, I committed to running at least one mile every day for 365 days. Not only is this helping me train for my upcoming 25K next month, but it also ensures I prioritize movement daily. Running one mile is simple, but it often leads to a longer workout. My weekly routine includes core workouts, arm and leg days, a walking day, and two longer runs to prepare for my race. Sticking to this habit has also helped me establish an early morning routine, getting my workout in before the day gets consumed by work, homework, and kids’ activities. Along with running, I’ve set a goal of reaching over 12,000 steps a day—three months in, and I’m feeling stronger and more energized than ever!

Reading a Book a Month
One of my favorite habits has been dedicating time to reading every day. My goal is to finish 12 books this year, and I’m currently on my third: Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow. So far, I’ve read Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine and The Weight of Him. Taking even 5-30 minutes each day to read gives me a quiet moment to unwind and reset. I’ve realized how much I need this time away from screens and distractions—just me, a book, and a little stillness.
Daily Duolingo
For years, I’ve wanted to improve my Spanish. In college, I had a decent grasp of the language, but as life got busier, I lost that confidence. Just like my ESL students, I sometimes hesitate to speak, but I’ve been challenging myself to be consistent. I’ve maintained a 1,108-day Duolingo streak, committing to at least one lesson a day. It’s just five minutes, but it keeps my brain engaged in a productive way—way better than mindlessly scrolling on my phone!

Laundry Routine
As a family of five, laundry can pile up fast, but I’ve found that doing one small load every day keeps it manageable. My routine is simple: start a load before work, switch it over before school pickup, fold it while the kids shower, and put it away as I tuck them in for the night. This habit has been a game-changer—I no longer feel overwhelmed by mountains of laundry, and I love the consistency of staying on top of it.
Health & Wellness
One major change this year has been prioritizing my nutrition, especially increasing my protein intake. I used to skip breakfast, but now I start the day with a high-protein meal, followed by balanced lunches and dinners while limiting unnecessary snacking. Winter is always a tough season for me when it comes to cravings, but with warmer weather ahead, I’m looking forward to spending more time outside and staying active.
A Goal for More Balance
For 2025, my biggest goal is balance. After years of putting everyone else’s needs first, I’m finally reclaiming a little more time for myself. With the kids becoming more independent, I want to focus on self-care—getting a massage, a pedicure, a haircut, and truly enjoying those small moments. It’s amazing how tiny habits can shape your entire day, and I’m excited to continue building routines that make me feel my best.

My Daily Routine
Morning: Workout first thing, followed by my Duolingo lesson while cooling down.
Midday: Get the kids ready, head to work, and start a load of laundry.
Afternoon: Pick up the kids, help with homework, and squeeze in some reading while they play.
Evening: Dinner, sports, and winding down with laundry before bed.
By intentionally incorporating these habits, my days feel more structured, productive, and fulfilling. Here’s to keeping them going all year long!
